Beltane Steeplechase

The Beltane Steeplechase is a test of strength, stamina and courage for man and horse alike. Two and one-half miles of timber course await those who dare attempt it. Along the way are various obstacles designed to test the racers' mettle and skill over the most demanding terrain. Speed alone will not win this race.

Rules:
  • Race will be open to fields of ten racers (three minimum).
  • There are ten obstacles to overcome during the running of the race, over a two and one-half mile timber track.
  • The proctor/announcer will roll nD10 (n = number of racers) for each "leg" of the race (the section between obstacles) to determine the racers' speed in that section.
  • Racers will roll 1d10 for each obstacle in the race (according to current position in the race).  Their skill in tackling the obstacle is determined by this roll in the following manner:
  • An obstacle roll of 10: The racer sails through with perfect form and adds 2 to their current speed score.
  • An obstacle roll of 8-9: The racer shows finesse and passes the obstacle easily, adding 1 to their current speed score.
  • An obstacle roll of 5-7: The racer manages to clear the obstacle.
  • An obstacle roll of 2-4: The racer falters with the obstacle and loses 1 from their current racing score.
  • An obstacle roll of 1: The racer fails to clear the obstacle on the first try and loses 2 from their current racing score.
  • Please note:  With this system, every racer will clear every obstacle.  Even on a roll of 1, the racer technically clears the obstacle on the second try (without rerolling) and continues the race.
  • QCC racers are eligible to run in these races, but the outcome of the race will have NO BEARING on their QCC Racing Commission statistics.
  • The main purpose of this event is participation for spectators and racers alike.  ((We encourage the racers to RP their progress through the race.))
VPs Awarding:
  • Race winners:  1st place, 100 vps; 2nd place, 50 vps; 3rd place, 25 vps

  • Non-winning racers: 5 VPs for participation

  • Proctor/Announcer: 3 VPs per racer
